Steve Scalise is a Republican politician who represents the First Congressional District of Louisiana. He is a strong leader who upholds the Constitution and advocates for the principles of fiscal discipline, lower taxes, a robust national defense, and conservative values. As Majority Leader, Scalise is responsible for the day-to-day workings of the House of Representatives and helps Republicans communicate their priorities to the American people. He plays a critical role in setting the House’s overall agenda by scheduling legislation on the House Floor for a vote and guiding committee chairs on which policies and bills to prioritize.

Scalise is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and has sponsored and cosponsored legislation protecting citizens right to keep and bear arms. He is also committed to ensuring that students in Louisiana and around the country receive the highest quality education. Scalise believes that Obamacare has failed the American people and our economy and that access to affordable health care is out of reach for too many people. He has fought for the right to life and continues to fight against attempts to weaken family values.

Scalise is a practicing Roman Catholic and a longtime fan of the New Orleans Saints professional football team and of LSU’s sports teams.
