The Bible presents sex as a good and honorable gift from God, designed primarily for the union between a married man and woman. It is part of God's creation and intended for physical, emotional, and spiritual bonding in marriage, as well as for procreation (Genesis 1:28; Genesis 2:18, 23–24; Hebrews 13:4). Sex is not seen as shameful or dirty; in the beginning, Adam and Eve were naked without shame (Genesis 2:25).
The Bible prohibits sexual relations outside the bounds of marriage, including premarital sex, adultery, same-sex relations, and other sexual practices deemed immoral (Leviticus 18; Romans 1:26–27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Matthew 5:27–32). Sexual immorality is consistently condemned, with a call to flee from such behaviors (1 Corinthians 6:18).
Within marriage, sexual intimacy is a way to strengthen the marital bond, reflecting the covenant relationship between husband and wife, meant to bring them closer as "one flesh" (Genesis 2:24; Proverbs 5:19; 1 Corinthians 7:3–5). The Bible celebrates sexual love within marriage as a joyful, committed, and intimate experience (Song of Solomon 4–5).
Celibacy is also recognized as a valid and sometimes preferred state, but sex within marriage is affirmed as good and right to prevent immorality and sustain marital unity (1 Corinthians 7).
In summary, the Bible teaches that sex is a beautiful, sacred, and ordained act meant to be enjoyed exclusively within the lifelong covenant of marriage, with strong warnings against any sexual activity outside these bounds.
