WC stands for "water closet," which is a term used to refer to a toilet. The term originated in the 1900s when most toilets were fitted in a spare closet or cupboard, and over time, WC has been used instead of bathroom to describe a room with a toilet but no bath. A WC suite is another term for a complete toilet with a cistern, pan, and flush. In some countries, such as Germany, the toilet is sometimes kept in a separate room from the rest of the bathroom or restroom, and this is also referred to as a water closet.
