Michael Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication on June 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 50. The Los Angeles County coroner classified Jacksons death as a homicide, determining that Jackson died from acute propofol intoxication, exacerbated by the anxiolytic lorazepam, and less significantly midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine, and ephedrine. Propofol is a powerful anesthetic used for general anesthesia, sedation, and in veterinary medicine. In addition to propofol, the examiner also found traces of lorazepam, midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine, and ephedrine in Jacksons system. However, propofol was the main culprit in his death.
