On October 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse will occur. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, blocking most of the Suns light and causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring) . The eclipse will cross North, Central, and South America, and will be visible in parts of the United States, Mexico, and many other countries. The path of the eclipse will begin to cross the United States in Oregon, entering at Dunes City, and passing over Newport, Crater Lake National Park, Umpqua and Fremont National Forests, Eugene, and Medford. The annular solar eclipse first touches the United States at 9:13 a.m. PDT at Reedsport, Oregon, and ends in Texas at 12:03 p.m. CDT.
