Red Bull will use the Honda RBPT engine in the 2023 Formula 1 season, despite Hondas official exit from the sport at the end of 2021. Red Bull Powertrains was formed after Hondas exit and has partnered with Ford for the next-gen hybrid power unit, which will supply engines to Red Bull and AlphaTauri from 2026. The Honda RBPT engines will be officially named as such for the 2023 season and will be used by both Red Bull and AlphaTauri. Red Bull created its own in-house Powertrains division after Hondas exit, which has provided more jobs in Milton Keynes to mitigate the restrictions imposed by the cost cap implemented in 2021. Red Bull and Honda did re-enter talks in late 2022 over a possible collaboration for the 2026 engine rules, which ditch the complex and expensive Motor Generator Unit – Heat (MGU-H) .
