The McLaren F1 car uses a Mercedes-AMG® F1 M13 E Performance 1.6 V6 turbocharged hybrid engine. McLaren has been a Mercedes engine customer since 2021, and they have a contract in place with Mercedes to use their engines until the 2024 season. McLaren has also held exploratory talks with Red Bull over a potential engine supply deal from 2026, but they have not made any decisions yet. McLaren does not make their own F1 engines, and it would be too expensive for them to do so.
