Luffy uses Gear 5 for the first time in One Piece Episode 1071, which aired on August 6, 2023. This episode is titled "Luffys Peak - Attained! Gear 5" and marks the first appearance of Gear 5 in the anime. In the manga, Luffy first uses Gear 5 in Chapter 1044. Gear 5 is part of the awakening of Luffys Devil Fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi, and enhances his rubber body properties, making him stronger and allowing him to fight more freely. It also allows him to transform the things around him into rubber and enhances his other Gears.
