The Israeli Air Force has obtained most of its military aircraft from the United States since the 1970s, including the A-4 Skyhawk, F-4 Phantom II, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and F-35 Lightning II. The F-16 has been the most important fighter jet in the Israel Air Force for nearly 35 years, and Israel has the worlds second-largest F-16 fleet, operating various types throughout the decades. Israel has also operated domestically produced types such as the IAI Nesher and the more advanced IAI Kfir, which were derivatives of the French Dassault Mirage 5.
