There are several foods that are poisonous to cats, and its important to know what they are to keep your feline friend safe. Here are some of the most toxic foods for cats:

• Onions and Garlic: These foods can cause damage to a cats red blood cells and lead to anemia. Exposure to concentrated forms of onion or garlic, such as onion soup mix or garlic powder, can also be toxic. Cats with symptoms of lethargy, weakness, reduced appetite, pale gums, and orange to dark red urine should be taken to the vet immediately.

• Raw Eggs, Raw Meat & Bones: Raw meat, raw fish, and raw eggs often contain bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli that can be harmful to both humans and immunocompromised pets. A lack of thiamine in raw fish can cause serious neurological problems and lead to convulsions and coma. Bones can also be dangerous as they can splinter and cause blockages or tears in the digestive system.

• Chocolate: Chocolate can be lethal for cats. The toxic agent in chocolate is theobromine, which is in all kinds of chocolate, even white chocolate. The most dangerous kinds, though, are dark chocolate and unsweetened baking chocolate. Eating chocolate can cause abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures, and death.

• Caffeine: Caffeine in large enough quantities can be fatal for a cat. Symptoms of caffeine poisoning include restlessness, rapid breathing, heart palpitations, and muscle tremors. Caffeine can be found in cocoa, chocolate, colas, and stimulant drinks such as Red Bull. Its also in some cold medicines and painkillers.

• Alcohol: Even small amounts of alcohol can be dangerous for cats. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, tremors, coma, and even death.

• Avocado: The skin of the avocado fruit contains persin, which is generally toxic to cats and dogs. If your cat accidentally ingests avocado, they may have vomiting/diarrhea or develop acute pancreatitis due to the fat content.

• Citrus: Oranges, lemon, lime, grapefruit, and tangerines contain thiosulphate, which can trigger hemolytic anemia in cats. Every part of onion plants (bulbs, roots, shoots, greens) is dangerous for cats. Broths and seasoned meat can also contain onion powder.
