After Jesus was resurrected, several significant events occurred, as recorded in the New Testament:
- Early on the Sunday morning after His crucifixion, some of Jesus’ female followers went to His tomb to anoint His body with spices but found the tomb empty. Two men in dazzling clothes (angels) appeared and told them that Jesus had risen from the dead. The women then informed the disciples about the empty tomb
- Jesus made multiple post-resurrection appearances over a period of 40 days. He appeared first to Mary Magdalene at the tomb, then to two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and later to His apostles and many others. During these appearances, He taught and prepared His disciples for their mission
- There was a profound cosmic reaction at the time of Jesus’ death and resurrection: the temple veil was torn in two, the earth shook, rocks split, and tombs opened. According to Matthew 27:52-53, many holy people who had died were raised to life and appeared to many in Jerusalem after Jesus’ resurrection. This event symbolized the victory over death and the promise of new life
- Jesus appeared to His disciples multiple times, including to the eleven apostles, and gave them the Great Commission to spread His teachings to all nations. After these appearances, He ascended into heaven from Mount Olivet, witnessed by His apostles
In summary, after Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to His followers multiple times, confirming His victory over death, taught them, commissioned them for their mission, and then ascended into heaven. These events are foundational to Christian belief in the resurrection and eternal life
