On August 23, 2023, a mass shooting occurred at Cooks Corner, a popular bar and grill in Trabuco Canyon, California. The shooter, John Snowling, killed three people and injured six others before being fatally shot by Orange County sheriffs deputies. Snowling shot his estranged wife, Marie, in the jaw before turning his gun on a woman she was dining with and then other patrons. The victims killed in the shooting were Glen Sprowl Jr., 53, of Stanton, and John Leehey, 67, of Irvine. Cooks Corner reopened on September 1, 2023, after being closed for nine days following the shooting. The general manager, Rhonda Palmeri, said she wants to "bring the family back together".
