The movie "Us" directed by Jordan Peele has a twist ending that reveals Adelaide is actually Red, her Tethered clone. When Adelaide was a child, she came across Red in the hall of mirrors at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, which is the opening scene of the movie. Red knocked Adelaide out so she could take over her life, becoming one of the most underappreciated 2010s horror villains who are cunning and smart. At the end of the movie, Adelaide overcomes Red and kills her. She finds Jason and exits the tunnels. But aboveground, the many Tethers have joined hands and formed a "human chain" that was inspired by the real-life Hands Across America. The event took place on May 25th, 1986, and millions of people held hands. The event was meant to raise money for charities that focus on poverty, homelessness, and hunger. In a new interview with the Empire podcast, Peele explained that the movie is about "maybe the monster is you. It’s about us, looking at ourselves as individuals and as a group. The protagonist in the movie is the surrogate for the audience, so it felt like at the end of the day, I wasn’t doing my core theme any justice if I wasn’t revealing that we have been the bad guy in this movie. We’ve been following the villain".
