On Saturday evening, a shooting occurred at the State Fair of Texas in the food court of the Tower Building, injuring three people, two men, and one woman. The suspect, 22-year-old Cameron Turner, was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Turner claimed that he felt threatened and went into "survival mode". The arrest affidavit did not go into what was said that Turner believed was threatening. The fair has an open-gate weapons detection system that’s new this year, and the fair prohibits weapons on the property, except for licensed gun owners. It is not clear how the suspect got a gun onto the fairgrounds. The fair reopened on Sunday with enhanced security measures, and the fairgoers passed through the same metal detectors that were used on Saturday. The fair officials did a "top to bottom" review of the security processes on Sunday. The fair asked everyone to be "fair aware" and report anything that doesnt look right on the fairgrounds to a uniformed police officer or State Fair Safety Team member.
