On October 26, 2023, there were two mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine, that left at least 18 people dead and 13 injured. The shootings occurred at Schemengees Bar and Grille, a local restaurant, and Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley. The exact number of casualties at each location is not yet known. The shooter arrived at the two locations shortly before 7 p.m. . Police issued shelter-in-place warnings throughout the night as they searched for a person of interest. The manhunt for the shooter continued into the next day, and the state police expanded the shelter-in-place to include the town of Bowdoin, Maine, where the shooter was from. The Androscoggin County Sheriffs Office released photos of a man with a rifle and said it was "investigating two active shooter events". On October 28, 2023, the man wanted in the shootings was found dead of an apparent suicide.
