According to recent news reports, a cloudburst in North Sikkim caused a sudden rise in the water level of river Teesta, triggering flash floods. As a result, the death toll has risen to 56, and over 100 people are still missing. The Indian Army is continuing its search for the missing soldiers who were swept away in the flash floods. In addition, a rally in Namchi turned violent, resulting in injuries to some police personnel. The youth leaders body was found in a drain under suspicious conditions, and his family claims the police have ample proof to declare it murder and apprehend the culprits. Furthermore, more than 2,400 tourists were stranded in parts of North Sikkim due to heavy rains since the last three days, and the district administration has started necessary operations to evacuate the tourists from the said area.
