In Washington, D.C., there was a major shooting incident near the White House in the Farragut Square area, where two members of the West Virginia National Guard were shot and critically injured in what officials are calling a targeted attack. Police say a single suspect opened fire on the guardsmen, was shot during the incident, and is now in custody.
The shooting happened in a busy downtown area close to the Farragut West Metro station, just before the Thanksgiving holiday, leading to a large security and emergency response. President Donald Trump condemned the attack as an act of terror and ordered additional National Guard troops—reportedly about 500 more—to be deployed to Washington, D.C. to bolster security in the capital.
