January 6, 2023, marks 24 months since the attack on the U.S. Capitol that disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress in the process of affirming the presidential election results. The attack resulted in approximately 140 police officers being assaulted, including about 80 from the U.S. Capitol Police and about 60 from the Metropolitan Police Department. Additionally, approximately 11 individuals have been arrested on a series of charges that relate to assaulting a member of the media or destroying their equipment on January 6.

It is worth noting that January 6, 2023, was also a day with other events happening around the world. For example, at least 16 people were killed and 21 others were injured when a bus crashed while traveling from Kampala to Gulu in northern Uganda. In addition, there were ongoing armed conflicts and attacks in various parts of the world, including the Russo-Ukrainian War, the Mexican drug war, and the Somali Civil War.

While there were no specific reports of any significant events happening on January 6, 2023, other than the 24-month anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol, there were various discussions and reflections on the one-year anniversary of the Capitol riot that happened on January 6, 2022.
