The 17th of Rabi ul-Awwal is a significant date for Muslims, and it is celebrated as the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (s) . Although historians and scholars disagree on the exact date of his birth, some Muslims celebrate it on the 12th or 17th of Rabi al-awwal. According to narrations, Prophet Muhammad (s) was born on the early hours of Friday, 17th Rabbi Ul-Awwal in the year widely known as the Year of the Elephant. The day also marks the birth of his great-grandson, Imam Jafar as-Sadiq. Muslims celebrate this day by performing good deeds, fasting, and reciting prayers. Fasting on this day is highly recommended, and narrations tell us that the reward of fasting on the 17th of Rabi Ul-Awwal is equal to fasting for an entire year.
