Anthony Foley was an Irish rugby union player and head coach of Munster. He died in his sleep on October 16, 2016, while staying at a hotel in the Paris suburb of Suresnes with the Munster squad. The cause of his death was acute pulmonary edema caused by heart disease. Pulmonary edema is a condition where excess fluid collects in numerous air sacks in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. Foleys body was found in his hotel room by a member of the hotel staff and a player from the Munster team. The squad assumed Foley was having a lie-in when he did not come downstairs for breakfast, but grew alarmed when they did not see him by late morning. His remains were flown home to Shannon Airport on October 19, 2016, and his funeral took place in County Clare on October 21, 2016.
