Arthur Guinness was an Irish brewer and entrepreneur who founded the Guinness Brewery at St. James's Gate in Dublin in 1759. He signed a 9,000-year lease for the brewery site, which was originally an ale brewery. In the 1770s, he began brewing porter, which later became the famous Guinness stout. Arthur expanded the brewery and its operations significantly during his lifetime. He was born around September 24, 1725, near Celbridge, County Kildare. Guinness was socially and politically active, founding the first Sunday school in Dublin in 1786 and advocating for moral responsibility and Catholic rights, though opposing the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Arthur Guinness died on January 23, 1803, at his family estate in Beaumont. His death was from unknown causes, and he was buried in County Kildare. At the time of his death, his brewery was producing around 724,000 pints of beer monthly, showing the substantial growth of his business. His son, Arthur Guinness II, inherited the brewery and continued the family business.
