Asonta Gholston, who was known as Asante on Love After Lockup, passed away on September 1, 2023, after being involved in a car crash in his hometown of Toccoa, Georgia. He was running from the police and hit another vehicle during the pursuit with four teenagers in it. According to multiple reports, he died in the accident. The cause of his death was revealed to be blunt force trauma to the head and chest. Asonta left behind a pregnant girlfriend.
