Asonta Gholston, a cast member of Love During Lockup, passed away on September 1, 2023, after being involved in a car crash in his hometown of Toccoa, Georgia. He was driving at high speed and collided with another vehicle head-on. Asonta died in the accident, but the teens in the other vehicle were unharmed. Raneka Hayes, Asontas girlfriend and co-star on the show, confirmed the news of his death on her social media pages. Asonta and Raneka were set to appear on Love After Lockup, but they were not together at the time of his passing. His funeral was held on September 10, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, and his burial followed at Toccoa City Cemetery.
