Ava Wood was a 14-year-old student-athlete who was found shot to death on January 20, 2023, inside her home in Baldwinsville, New York. Her father, Christopher Wood, was also found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in another room. Avas mother, Heather Wood, reported her disappearance to the police when she did not show up for school that day. Authorities recovered a shotgun from the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, but police believe that Christopher Wood shot his daughter before turning the gun on himself.

Ava was a student at Durgee Jr. High School in Baldwinsville and was a popular and social student-athlete who participated in athletics, soccer, and track & field. She was #18 on Baldwinsvilles Girls Junior Varsity Soccer team. Her soccer coaches spoke about the person and player she was, describing her as an incredible kid who worked hard and tried to get better every day. A prayer service and candlelight vigil were held in her honor, and her school district sent an email to parents and staff expressing their condolences. Her funeral service was held on January 28, 2023, at Word of Life Assembly of God Church in Baldwinsville.
