Barry Seal was a pilot who became involved in drug smuggling for the MedellĂn cartel in the 1980s. He was arrested and jailed in Honduras on the return leg of a drug-smuggling trip to Ecuador, where he made important connections, including Emile Camp and Ellis McKenzie, who became some of his closest associates. Seal surrendered to federal authorities in April 1983 and attempted to make a deal, but both the Florida and Baton Rouge task forces rejected any deals. Seal was tried in February 1984 and convicted on all counts in the first indictment. Despite coming to an agreement with the DEA and the Florida drug task force in March 1984, he was still under active investigation by state and federal authorities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Little Rock, Arkansas. In October 1984, a grand jury in Louisiana was convened and began interviewing witnesses against Seal. Seal was assassinated on February 19, 1986, in front of the Salvation Army Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by contract killers. It is unclear what happened to the money that Seal made during his many drug trafficking missions over the years following his death. Seals real-life wife, Deborah Seal, struggled financially after his death.
