Dan Crenshaw, a Texas Republican congressman, lost his right eye and sustained damage to his left eye in Afghanistan in 2012 when a bomb exploded. He underwent major surgeries on his left eye, which had a cataract, excessive tissue damage, and extensive damage to his retina. Two months ago, he noticed dark, blurry spots in his vision and rushed in for emergency surgery. Doctors found that his retina was in bad shape, and he underwent surgery to save his vision. The retina to his left eye was found to be detaching after he went to an ophthalmologist because of dark, blurry vision. He underwent emergency surgery on his remaining eye, and he will be "effectively blind" for about a month. Crenshaw is often seen sporting an eye patch over his right eye, which is a constant reminder of the roadside bomb blast in 2012 that destroyed his right eye during a deployment in Afghanistan.
