Darth Maul is a character in the Star Wars franchise who first appeared in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. He was a powerful Sith Lord and Darth Sidious first apprentice. During the Battle of Naboo, he killed Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn before being bisected by Qui-Gons apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, Maul survived and was driven insane over a decade of isolation until his brother, Savage Opress, found him during the Clone Wars.

Maul was reforged by the witches of Dathomir and rebuilt his criminal organization. He manipulated Ezra Bridger into helping him find Obi-Wan on Tatooine, where the two old rivals had a final confrontation that ended in Maul’s death.

In Legends, Maul was killed by Owen Lars with a blaster bolt to the head.
