Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado football team, has had multiple surgeries to address blood clots in his legs. In June 2023, he had successful surgery to fix blood clots in his left leg, including one in his left thigh and another below his knee. Sanders also has a blood clot in his right leg that doctors were planning to address soon. In August 2023, Sanders revealed that he had to have his left legs big toe and the second toe severed after developing three femoral arterial blood clots. Sanders had regular surgery in September 2021 to treat an inflamed nerve and a fractured toe, but his left and second toe began turning black a few days after the treatment. Sanders underwent eight surgeries within a month and had two toes on his left foot amputated. Sanders family has a long history of blood clots, which was discovered after his blood clot diagnosis. Sanders missed three games after his left big toe and second toe were amputated. Sanders recently had a meeting with his medical team in which amputating his left foot was discussed as a potential outcome. Sanders said he had no feeling on the bottom of his foot, and the procedure was to "try to get those clots so I can have proper blood flow to the leg so they can fix the toes". Sanders is recovering from multiple surgeries for blood clots in his legs, and the procedures were apparently successful.
