Deshaun Watson is still a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, but his career has been derailed by both a long suspension for off‑field conduct and multiple serious injuries, most recently a ruptured and then re‑torn Achilles tendon.

Off-field suspension

• Watson was accused by more than two dozen women of sexual assault or inappropriate conduct during massage sessions stemming from his time with the Houston Texans.

• The NFL investigated and suspended him for 11 games in 2022, also fining him and requiring treatment as part of the disciplinary agreement.

Injuries with the Browns

• In 2023 he suffered a significant shoulder injury (displaced fracture of the glenoid in his throwing shoulder) that required season‑ending surgery and caused him to miss the final eight games.

• In October 2024 he ruptured his right Achilles tendon, ending his season; during rehab he re‑tore the same Achilles and needed a second surgery in January 2025, leading the team to say he would miss substantial time in 2025.

Current status (late 2025)

• He spent most of the 2025 season on the physically unable to perform list while rehabbing the Achilles, but in early December 2025 the Browns opened a 21‑day practice window that lets him return to practice and possibly be activated before the season ends.

• Even with this step, there is uncertainty about whether he will actually play in games in 2025, and his on‑field performance with Cleveland so far has been poor relative to expectations and his massive fully guaranteed contract, which the team’s owner has publicly called a major mistake.
