Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. He was found unconscious by his girlfriend, Ginger Alden, on the bathroom floor of his Graceland mansion home. He was quickly taken by ambulance to the Baptist Memorial Hospital, where attempts to revive him failed, and he was pronounced dead at 3:30 pm. The cause of his death was initially reported as a "cardiac arrhythmia", but it was later revealed that he died of heart failure. Elvis had a history of drug abuse, which severely compromised his health. Prescription drugs were found in his blood, but they were not considered to be a contributing factor to his death. Elviss actual cause of death appears to have been heart failure, but the cardiac incident was a result of his longstanding and serious drug abuse. Elviss physician, Dr. George Nichopoulos, was implicated in the singers death, and his medical license was suspended for three months for indiscriminately prescribing and dispensing controlled substances.
