According to the Bible, Eve was the first woman created by God and was brought together with Adam in marriage. In the Garden of Eden, Satan tempted Eve to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and she yielded to the temptation and ate the fruit. When Adam learned what had happened, he chose to partake also. The changes that came upon Adam and Eve because they ate the fruit are called the Fall. As a result of their transgression, Adam and Eve suffered spiritual death, and they and their children could not walk and talk face to face with God. Eve was sentenced to a life of sorrow and travail in childbirth, and to be under the power of her husband. Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel, and after the death of Abel, Eve gave birth to a third son, Seth, from whom Noah and thus the whole of modern humanity is descended. According to Genesis 5:5, Adam (and presumably Eve) simply died of old age.
