Flappy Bird was a mobile game that was released on May 24, 2013, and was available for Android and iOS devices. The game was developed by Dong Nguyen in two to three days and featured a bird character named Faby that players had to keep in the air by tapping the screen. The game was initially significantly easier than the final version, but Nguyen tightened up the difficulty to make it more challenging. Flappy Bird became an overnight sensation, garnering 90 million downloads and earning $50,000 a day from in-app advertisements and sales. However, on February 8, 2014, Nguyen announced on Twitter that he would be removing the game from both Apples App Store and Google Play, citing the games addictive nature and over-usage as the reason for its removal. The sudden removal of the game caused phones with the game installed before its removal to be put up for sale for high prices over the internet. Nguyen has since stated that he has no plans to bring the game back.
