Flex Wheeler, a bodybuilding legend, had his right lower limb amputated in late October 2019 due to escalating circulation difficulties in his right leg that had become life-threatening. In 1999, he was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a form of kidney disease, and despite press speculation as to the cause of the failure, Wheeler pointed out that the condition is hereditary, although drug use probably accelerated its onset. After the amputation, Wheeler started documenting his recovery process on Instagram and has been hitting the gym daily, showing fans how he has adapted his fitness routine in the last several months to fit life as an amputee. He has been using a prosthetic right leg and working out on a leg press, elliptical, and other gym equipment. Wheeler has been determined to get into the best shape possible by his 55th birthday on August 23, and he has been working hard to achieve his goal.
