In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gamora does not die, but she was meant to die according to James Gunn, the writer and director of the movie. Gunn wanted Gamora to sacrifice herself, but Marvel executives convinced him it wasnt the right way to go. Instead, Michael Rookers Yondu met his end in the movie. However, in Avengers: Infinity War, the Gamora of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was killed by her father, Thanos, who tossed her off a cliff to obtain the Soul Stone. In Avengers: Endgame, a version of Gamora from the past returned to join the Guardians, but she does not recall her previous adventures with them. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a Variant Gamora is working with the MCUs space pirates, who replaced the Guardians as her found family. Zoe Saldana, the actress who plays Gamora, has said she expects the Guardians series to continue, but she wont be part of it.
