Gamora died in "Avengers: Infinity War" when Thanos sacrificed her for the Soul Stone, and her death was permanent. However, in "Avengers: Endgame," the Avengers traveled back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones, and a past version of Gamora from 2014 was brought to the present timeline. This version of Gamora never met the Guardians on Xandar, fell in love with Peter Quill, or went through any of the other character development seen in the original Gamoras three MCU appearances. In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," this alternate-timeline Gamora is working with the Ravagers and is more aggressive and ruthless than the original Gamora. She acts as though she doesnt know Peter and the Guardians because she really doesnt. The movie deals with the awkward existence of this new Gamora and respects the changes in her character while giving her closure and leaving the door open for a return.
