The Guitar Hero franchise was a popular series of music rhythm games that allowed players to simulate playing guitar by using a plastic guitar-shaped controller. The franchise had been on hiatus since 2010s Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock. The 2015 release of ‘Guitar Hero Live’ was supposed to bring the series into the modern day, but instead served as the final nail in the coffin for the once-legendary franchise. The franchise died due to oversaturation and people losing interest in buying new installments. The development of the Guitar Hero franchise was shifted over to Neversoft after Harmonix, the developers of the original Guitar Hero games, was purchased by Viacom. Harmonix then started work on Guitar Heros most popular competitor, Rock Band. The franchises success was due to its ability to take the music game experience from the arcade and bring it into peoples homes, allowing gamers to feel like they were stars of their own concerts. Although the franchise is no longer active, there is still a community of fans who play the game through the Clone Hero indie project.
