Hershel Greene was a beloved character in The Walking Dead, portrayed by actor Scott Wilson. He was the patriarch of the Greene family and the owner of a farm in Georgia. Hershel was a man of wisdom and compassion who had lots of knowledge to pass on to those who would listen. He was introduced in season 2 when Rick Grimes and his group of survivors took refuge on his farm after Carl was shot. Hershels character was known for his uncompromising morals and stubborn attitude, and he remained fiercely protective of his large family despite his many losses.

Hershel died in The Walking Dead season 4, in the midseason finale titled "Too Far Gone". The Governor, one of the vilest villains in TWDU, kidnapped Hershel and Michonne and used them as leverage to overthrow the prison. The Governor partially decapitated Hershel with Michonnes katana, and the whole group, including his daughters Maggie and Beth, watched in horror. In the midseason premiere "After", Michonne used her sword to gently put the reanimated head of Hershel to sleep. Hershels death was one of the shows most shocking and emotional moments, and his legacy continues to live on in The Walking Dead Universe.
