Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman were two 10-year-old girls who went missing on August 4, 2002, after leaving a family barbecue to buy sweets. Their disappearance sparked one of the most intense and extensive searches in British criminal history. The girls bodies were discovered on August 17, 2002, in an irrigation ditch more than 10 miles away from Soham. It is likely that both girls died from asphyxiation before their bodies were disposed of. School caretaker Ian Huntley was convicted of their murders in December 2003. The deaths of Holly and Jessica shocked the nation and changed the course of British policing. The parents of Holly Wells still live in Soham, and they have tried to put the past behind them and move on with their lives for the sake of their son Oliver, who was 12 years old when his sister disappeared. The parents of Jessica Chapman have rarely spoken publicly since their daughters death.
