Jessica Gadirova, a 19-year-old British gymnast, suffered a full tear of her anterior cruciate knee ligament at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp earlier this month. She withdrew from the remainder of the competition due to the injury, and her twin sister Jennifer was also sidelined with an injury. Jessica was due to compete in the womens floor, vault, and beam finals over the weekend, but she missed the rest of the Championships after experiencing pain while warming up on vault for the all-around competition. In a statement, British Gymnastics said that Jessica felt some pain after her final training on vault in the warm-up hall before the all-around competition, and the precautionary decision was made for her not to compete. Jessica confirmed the ACL tear on her Instagram account, saying that she was still taking time to process the injury and that she faced a tough and long journey ahead. She added that she did not know for sure how long it would take to recover, but she would be doing everything she could with the support of those around her to return to the sport she loves as soon as possible.
