Job was a good and prosperous family man who feared God and shunned evil. One day, Satan presented himself before God and accused Job of honoring God only because God had blessed him. God allowed Satan to take away Job’s wealth and his children. Later, God allowed Satan to afflict Job physically. Job grieved deeply but did not charge God with wrongdoing. Despite losing everything he owned in one day, including his property, possessions, and children, Job never lost his faith in God. He remained devout and did not curse God, nor did he waver in his understanding that God was still in control. Jobs friends challenged and berated him, suggesting that he must have seriously done something wrong to have received such a fate. However, Jobs plight, from the death of his children and loss of his property to the physical torment he endured, never caused his faith to waver. Job repented and asked the Lord to forgive him for doubting. He promised to trust the Lord. The Lord knew that Job loved Him. He healed Job and blessed him with more children and twice as much wealth as he had before. Job lived 140 years after his suffering. According to tradition, his body was laid in a stone coffin below the altar).
