Jules Bianchi was a French Formula 1 driver who suffered a horrific accident during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. He lost control of his Marussia in very wet conditions and collided with a recovery vehicle, suffering a brain injury. Bianchi spent nine months in a coma before he passed away on July 17, 2015, in a French hospital at the age of just 25. His death was the first fatality from injuries sustained in a race since the death of Aryton Senna in 1994 at the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola. Bianchis accident was caused by him not slowing down enough under the double waved yellow flags, according to the investigation results into his death. He collided with a crane trying to recover another vehicle, and he died months later from his head injuries. Bianchis death has triggered anger over the recovery truck on the track, and F1 drivers have called for better safety measures.
