Keith Whitley was a country music singer who died at the age of 34 in 1989. He had a long battle with alcoholism, which was known throughout the country music community. On the day of his death, he had reportedly spent the weekend partying and was found at home fully clothed and face down, dead from alcohol poisoning. His brother-in-law found him unconscious and unresponsive and called an ambulance, but Whitley was pronounced dead at the hospital. The official cause of death was acute ethanolism (alcohol poisoning), and his blood alcohol level was 0.47, which is the equivalent of 20 one-ounce shots of 100-proof whiskey. Whitleys death shocked the country music community, and his funeral was held in Madison, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. His legacy continued well past his lifespan, and his final studio album was released just a few short months after his death.
