Kevin Trudeau is a former TV pitchman and author who has been in legal trouble for several years. He was convicted of criminal contempt in 2013 and sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. Trudeau was released from prison in January 2022 after serving eight years for a contempt conviction. However, he was back in federal court in Chicago in November 2022, where prosecutors asked a judge to put him back behind bars as they try to prove he’s stashed millions of dollars overseas and plans to flee there. Trudeau was fined $37.6 million and ordered to refund millions of dollars more for defrauding people who bought his sham diet book, “The Weight-Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You to Know About” . He has been found in contempt for failing to report to court and failing to pay down the millions he still owes on the diet book judgment. Trudeau has been accused of concealing millions in offshore accounts and hidden gold bars. He has made no payments on his $37 million debt other than what had been recovered by the FTC. In January 2023, a judge found Trudeau in contempt for failing to report to court and ordered him to remain in the Chicago area. Trudeaus lawyers and government attorneys have argued over whether Trudeau should go to jail for failing to pay down the millions he still owes on the diet book judgment. As of January 2023, Trudeau remains free while a U.S. judge orders him to come up with some financial answers.
