Larry Mullen Jr., the drummer of U2, has been absent from the bands recent performances due to health issues. In December 2022, he announced that he was struggling with pain in his neck, elbows, and knees, and planned to take time off to heal. He also mentioned that he would need surgery to be completely back. In September 2023, he was recovering from surgery and was unable to perform with the band during their Las Vegas residency. Dutch drummer Bram van den Berg temporarily replaced him. Mullen Jr. played on the studio version of their new single, "Atomic City," and filmed the music video, but he was not able to perform live with the band. Although he is not currently performing with the band, he remains active in everything U2 does.
