Martin Bashir is a former journalist who worked for the BBC, ITV, ABC, and NBC. He is best known for his 1995 interview with Princess Diana, which was obtained using fake documents and was found to be "deceitful" by an independent inquiry commissioned by the BBC in 2020. Bashir resigned from his role as the BBCs religion editor in May 2021, citing health issues, just before the investigation found him guilty of using deceit and breaching BBC editorial conduct in obtaining the Panorama interview. The BBC subsequently issued apology letters to Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and Earl Spencer regarding the situation. After his resignation from the BBC, Bashir has not held a journalist role at another network, possibly due to the damage the investigation did to his reputation or because of the health issues he cited upon his resignation.
