According to the search results, Martin Hyde, a congressional candidate from the Sarasota area, was pulled over by a Sarasota police officer for speeding and texting while driving on February 14, 2022. During the traffic stop, Hyde referenced his connections in the community, including the chief of police and the mayor, in an apparent attempt to avoid a ticket. When the officer persisted with the tickets, Hyde warned that: “You’re making career decisions” . The entire encounter was captured on the officer’s body-worn camera. Hyde later issued a public apology for his behavior, saying, “I was completely bang out of order. I have no right to talk to anybody like that; and I not only called the officer afterwards to apologize, I apologized to everybody that’s come into contact with it” . Hyde was lauded by Tucker Carlson for his apology on his show, Tucker Carlson Tonight.
