Michael Lewis daughter, Dixie Lewis, died in a car crash in Northern California in May 2021. She was 19 years old and was a passenger in a car driven by her friend and former Berkeley High School classmate Ross Schultz, 20, who also died in the accident. Dixie had completed her first year at Pomona College, where she played on the softball team. Schultz had finished his second year at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Michael Lewis, who is a well-known author, including for books like "Moneyball" and "The Big Short," said that he nearly quit writing after his daughters death. He described the loss of his daughter as a "hole" in his familys life and said that he is still grieving her death. The cause of the accident remains unknown, and Lewis said that "nobody was drunk" and "no one knows why" the car crossed a double yellow line and hit a truck.
