Ms. Dynamite is a British rapper, born Niomi Arleen McLean-Daley, who burst onto the music scene over two decades ago. She is known for her unique blend of different Black music styles, including Jamaican reggae and dancehall, hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and London garage grooves. Her debut album, "A Little Deeper," won the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 2002, and she donated the £20,000 prize to the NSPCC. Over her career, she has won two Brit Awards and three MOBO Awards, and was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2018 Birthdays Honour for services to music.
In 2006, Ms. Dynamite was convicted of assaulting a police officer and was sentenced to 60 hours of community service. She took a hiatus from her music career after her second album, "Judgement Days," came out in 2005 and failed to emulate the commercial success of her debut record. However, she has continued to perform and work with other artists, including appearing as a featured vocalist on the DJ Fresh vs Jay Frays single "Dibby Dibby Sound" in 2013 and teaming up with world-renowned DJ David Guetta in 2014.
