Monica Dutton is a major character in the TV series Yellowstone. She has faced numerous brushes with death throughout the series, but she has survived thus far. In season 1, Monica is inflicted with a serious head injury after attempting to break up a fight between two boys at the school where she teaches. While recovering at home, she suddenly passes out and is rushed to the hospital, where she discovers that she has suffered an epidural hematoma. Monica undergoes surgery and attends physical therapy to start the healing process. In season 4, Monica and Tate are attacked by a masked home invader, who injures Monica. Right before the masked intruder is about to kill her, Tate quickly pulls out a rifle and kills the attacker, saving his mother. In season 5, Monica, Kayce, and their son Tate officially left the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to move into their own house. In the season 5 premiere, Monica is heavily pregnant with her and Kayces second child. With just a few weeks until her due date, she starts experiencing intense cramps. As Kayce is at work, she drives herself and a concerned Tate to the hospital. But since its night and shes driving fast and in pain, she fails to see a buffalo in the middle of the road before its too late. Monica crashes and we later see her unconscious in the hospital. While Tate is okay and Monica pulls through, the unborn child doesnt make it, leaving the family devastated. Monica has not died in Yellowstone as of the end of season 5.
