Greg Oden was a basketball player who was selected first overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He was considered a once-in-a-lifetime talent and was expected to transform a franchise. However, his career was plagued by injuries, and he was unable to stay healthy. He underwent microfracture surgery of the knee in September 2007, which caused him to miss the entire 2007–08 NBA season. He made his NBA debut on opening night 2008 but was unable to stay healthy and missed significant playing time due to injuries. He played in just 105 regular-season NBA games and failed to find a rhythm amid all the stops and starts. He was waived by the Trail Blazers in March 2012. After retiring from basketball, he returned to Columbus as a student manager while working to get his bachelors degree in sport industry. He graduated in 2019 with a bachelors in sports industry and joined Edyoucore Sports & Entertainment as their athlete advisor. Currently, he works at Butler University as the director of basketball operations.
